Knitting Needle Case 2020 / How it all started
I am so happy to let you know that my first sewing pattern is almost done! It will come in two sizes and has a beautiful back pocket that is so easy and fun to make.
This super handy Knitting Needle Case was designed by my daughter Paulina @paulieknits not so long ago. She is an obsessive knitter and desperately needed an organizer for ALL the knitting needles she has. Here are the first drawings of it:
This was the first Knitting Needle Case I have sewn for her:
After using this for a while she decided that it is too small to keep ALL her knitting needles, and she needs a bigger one. Ok, said mom, here it is:
- Yea cool, but I need more pockets for circular needles with some snaps, said Paulina. - No problem!
So.., here is the Material List to make a big one:
Exterior fabric (Canvas), Total fabric needed: 30,5 cm x 127 cm (12” x 50”)
Lining fabric (Quilting cotton), Total fabric needed: 70 cm x 111 cm, (27 ½” x 43 ¾”))
Medium weight fusible interfacing (I used Vlieseline H250): Total fabric needed: 103x90 cm (40½” x 35 ½”).
Notions:
· Zipper 18 cm long (7 1/8”)
· Elastic band 60 cm (23 ½”) long, width is optional
· 7 snaps 12mm (1/2”)
· Matching polyester thread
· Thick needle for canvas/denim (nr.90-100)
· Sewing machine
· Rotary cutter or scissors
· Wonder tape/sewing tape (optional)
This tutorial is a step-by-step instructions with pictures where I will for ex. also explain and show how to make a zipper pocket and how to make a bias tape. I included a cutting layout which makes it easier to visualize all the pattern pieces that you need to cut out. The measurements are in both cm and inches.
I hope you like it as much as I do and if you want to get an update when this pattern or future patterns are coming out you can subscribe to my email list. I promise to respect your privacy.
This Knitting Needle Case has an extended pockets panel and can be used for short interchangeable knitting needles. I will update the pattern with this feature very soon!
Now, let´s have a look at what my pattern testers have made, I wouldn´t be able to make this pattern without them! Thank you all!
